Yes!!! I am so tired of hearing people complain about their city… its exhausting when you love it so much. I just to say to them… if you hate Fresno then move!!! Its true though, what we say does have a serious effect. We ourselves have perpetrated the belief that Fresno is a horribly unpleasant place to live. I am so excited to hear a different voice!! I suggest you post a blog on specifics about proactive ways we can change this attitude in our community. I would love to hear suggestions or ideas from someone who is connected to and invested the health of our city. Are there meetings that can be attended? Letters that can be sent? Specific organizations that need our help? I don’t know… just an idea for a future blog post. Thanks Barry!!

You are 100% right, we need to change the mindset here in Fresno. If we think we live in an awesome place (and I think we do), how can anyone say we don’t? This is a big challenge for Fresnans- we need to not only support our unique community. but we also need to be sure to share it with friends and family who visit from out of town. Whenever I get the “I’m sorry” response from people when they hear I’m from Fresno I always counter with “I’m not! I love my city!”

I agree completely. It all starts with us as individuals – shedding ourselves of the need to badmouth Fresno to outsiders, and – equally as important – taking time to regularly highlight the positives of our community. Is it an uphill battle? Sure it is. But if we don’t start attacking it immediately on an individual and collective basis, it will only get more daunting.

Yes, what you said… More than anything we have to support the uniqueness our community. Support our barely existent local businesses, sparse cultural events, and brave venturing out of a one mile comfort zone to see what we really do have.
